Whisky, a good investment?
67Ardbeg bottlings
The most popular whiskies for collecting are the "islay" whiskies.
By far most popular by collector's are the whiskies from the islay.
Ardbeg, Bowmore, Laphroaigh, Caol Ila, Lagavullin, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhian and the latest distillery Kilchoman are the distilleries who's still active on the islay.
Port ellen, Dhallas Dhu are the most wanted and popular closed distillery.
It is needless to say that rarity increases the value of the bottle and rarity comes by age and limited release bottling.
When you are considering to start a whiskycollection as a investment it's wise to buy only from reliable stores and sites, because there are a lot of fraude bottlings on the market.
World Whisky Index and Whiskyauction.com are very reliable, also is it possible to buy whisky on ebay, but don't forget to check the feedback of the seller, this is a very good indication of the trustworthy of the seller.
The best investment of single malt whiskies are bottlings from the sixies or older (because these are becoming rare) and popular brands like Ardbeg, Bowmore or Springbank.
Especially the committee bottlings of Ardbeg has rised in price with more than 200% in a few years. (every committee bottling up to now!!)
For starters: Let yourself be informed properly before starting your own collection as with everything.
Be aware that i am not promoting drinking or purchasing whisky as a drink!!
Also collectors of whiskybottles have to be of legal age to purchase a bottle!!
